Borage Seed Oil (Borago Officinalis Seedoil)

Borage Seed Oil (Borago Officinalis Seedoil)

The word “borage” has various different origins. Firstly, borage is derived from the Latin word borra, which roughly translated means “fabric made from rough wool”, probably due to its hairy stems and leaves. Secondly, the name is said to come from the Arabic abu r‐rach, “father of perspiration”, and refers to the traditional use of borage in medicine to induce perspiration. Thanks to the vitamin C content of the fresh plant, borage enjoys the reputation of reviving the spirits. Fresh borage contains 149.3 mg of vitamin C per 100 g. Due to its high amount of gamma‐linolenic acid, borage is also used in the treatment of eczemas such as neurodermatitis.
